Imam Qazwini delivers opening message in the "Does God Not Exist" Debate

On Saturday May 8, the Young Muslim Association and the Tawheed Institute of New York sponsored Part II of the "Does God Not Exist" Debate in Dearborn, Michigan. The debate included two atheists vs. two theists.  Hassanain Rajabali and Michael Corey, the theists, debated Dan Barker and Richard Carrier, the atheists.

Imam Sayid Hassan Al-Qazwini attended the program and he delivered the opening remarks jut before the debate began. Imam Qazwini expressed his gratitude for the debaters attending and he briefly spoke about the importance of using intellect and logic to prove the existence of Allah. He mentioned the verse "Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and have disputations with them in the best manner" [16:125]. He emphasized the importance of being not too aggressive or violent when we speak or debate with the unbelievers. The proper way to debate and invite them to our faith is through wisdom and good preaching and being kind with them, as the Qur'an states. Sayid Hassan then mentioned the incident when a man asked Imam Ali if he can see Allah. Imam Ali replied "how can I worship a lord that I can't see?". The man asked how the Imam can see his lord, and the Imam replied that he has seen his lord not through the eyes, but through the faith of the heart. Sayid Hassan then ended his opening message.
